About Topfloor

Topfloor started producing hollow core in 1997. Topfloor is the trading name of Allied Concrete and Plaster Supplies Ltd  which began trading as long ago as 1905, manufacturing a wide range of precast concrete products.

These products included paving slabs, kerbs and channels for the civil engineering and road building industries, decorative balustrading and columns. Our field of expertise included custom casting of architect designed  “ specials” in a variety of finishes from polished concrete to terrazzo. Mid 1980’s saw us commencing with the manufacture of prestressed lintels including a prestressed palisade fencing system.

Included in the above products was a decking system called hollowcrete, which comprised reinforced concrete beams (voided  along its length) nominally 380mm wide x 200mm high, which when erected on site next to one another formed an “instant” floor, requiring no propping, only grouting between the beams and a finishing screed.

In 1990 developed a prestressed solid decking slab 600mm wide with chamfered bottom edges resulting in a neat V- joint in smooth soffit which required no skimming, only painting. This replaced the outdated more expensive hollowcrete system.

In 1997 we purchased a manufacturing plant and became first company in Cape Town to produce a prestressed extruded hollowcore decking system with 1200mm wide slabs. This revolutionised the local decking market and was so well accepted by the local builders, that management decided to concentrate all their efforts into this product and consequently sold off the general precast arm of the business in June 1999.

Topfloor then continued trading as a separate entity from its Montague Gardens factory. In 2001 we purchased a brand new Echo slipformer from Belgium and this machine produces our range of  floor slabs (150, 200 & 250mm thick) to this day.

In late 2005 18 000m² of vacant land was bought in Bellville South where a brand new custom designed factory was erected to produce our hollowcore slabs. These slabs are produced inside a 200m long enclosed factory ensuring optimum casting and curing conditions for the slabs, as well as comfortable working conditions for our employees. As present we are implementing ISO 9001 Quality Control System and shortly thereafter will apply for SABS accreditation.

Topfloor prides itself on its quality and service and being a market leader in the concrete decking. For further quality assuarance Topfloor is a member of the CMA (Concrete Manufacturers Association).
